Swami Yuktananda (1923-1998), an alumnus of Presidency College, Kolkata, and a monk of the Ramakrishna Order, was initiated by Srimat Swami Vijnananandaji Maharaj and took his Sannyasa from Srimat Swami Shankaranandaji Maharaj.
He worked in all areas of activity of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, blazing trails in India and abroad. He initiated training programmes at the grassroots level in agriculture and founded Divyayan and Sri Ramakrishna Seva Kendra at Ranchi. He served on the Board of the State Bank of India in Bihar as an honorary director and also worked as a member of various task forces and working groups of the Planning Commission.
Swami Yuktananda spearheaded the movement for Value Orientation and Environmental Education in the country and founded Vivekananda Nidhi to bring about an attitudinal change among people at all levels through values clarification and the development of environmental ethics.
He was invited as a speaker to a number of universities and other organizations both in India and abroad.
